Anglesey winter races – 27 November 2011

An exciting weekend at Anglesey on the 26th and 27th November 2011 saw Keith Ashworth putting a fastest lap of 1.42.1 on the international circuit in his Caterham (Tracksport spec) during his second race. This time matches the fastest lap for

the Caterham Supersports that raced at Anglesey in September 2011. Brilliant Keith, well done!

The weekend also saw Alex Saunders, John Saunders’ son doing his first ever race after completing is Ards test with me in late August at Oulton Park. The races went exceptionally well for both of us with Alex absolutely beaming after every race, truly excited and looking forward to doing a few more races over the next few months. The Plumb pudding at Mallory Park on Boxing day comes to mind. Alex was running consistently in the 1.43′s in his dad’s Caterham Supersport (Tracksport spec) with a best of 1.42.4 which puts him right on the pace of the 2011 Supersport Caterhams. Well done Alex!

Patrick Scharfegger has been out of the race seat since 2006 and this weekend gave him the opportunity to race a Ginetta G40 for the first time. In the last sprint race I was able to overtake Patrick on the start and kept him well behind for the next 5 or 6 laps but I could tell he was not going to let me get away and eventually got passed 2 laps before the end. After the race he said he would not have been happy if I had beat him clearly knowing I was in a much slower Caterham Roadsport.

John also brought his new Ginetta G50 to Anglesey which he hoped to do both sprint races and the endurance race but unfortunately gearbox problems kept him out of the first race and the endurance, but

did share a drive with his son Alex in the Endurance race coming 7th overall in a Caterham mixed with some very quick Westfields, Porsches and Chevrons. John’s G50 was repaired and available for the second sprint race finishing a respectable 4th overall. Top man!!

A fantastic weekends racing for all with the view of a few more winter races in the next

John Saunders buys Ginetta G50

After having successfully competed in the Ginetta Challenge in buy cialis online a Ginetta G40 during the 2011 season, John Saunders is looking for a move into Endurance racing. Trackcars looked at the feasibility of upgrading his G40 into an endurance racer

but decided it was not going to be the most cost effective route. Instead we set up a couple of viewings of Ginetta 50 race cars currently for sale.

John test drove an endurance spec G50 on Sunday at Silverstone and immediately fell in love with it. After returning back to the pits from his test drive he simply said “pay the man the money”. John will be taking delivery of his new Ginetta G50 this week and is hoping to do some early winter testing kicking off at Donington on the 20 November 2011.

John plans on doing a few endurance events in the new year with a view of entering a few Britcar and GT Trophy rounds and the possibility of doing the Britcar 24 hour at Silverstone in October 2012.

TCS goes back to school at Racelogic

width=”300″ height=”149″ />Four members of TCS went down to Buckingham for a day long tuition session last week on the Racelogic Video VBox. They were taught by one of the chief developers who ensured that TCS had full understanding of both the software program and the hardware.

It was vital that the team got a thorough understanding because it is the teams chosen data logging software for the 2011 season, with post-test data analysis and driver aids being a further advantage for TCS.

“A lot of people may be able to install the Racelogic kit but it’s pointless if you can’t make full use of it and take it to its limits – which is what we aim to do this year”

TCS also contributed to the development of the software, as suggestions were pointed out when we were being shown around the beta version of Circuit Tools

(the data analysis software), with the programmers anxious to get back to their desk and try to improve their program with our ideas.

TCS can now also offer full installation services on both road and race cars for the Video VBox, along with our unique power feed box and VBox in car mount for the main unit.

TCS visits the Ginetta factory

Ginetta factory production lineUpon placing an order for four Ginetta G40s, an agreement was made for some TCS employees to work on the construction of the race cars on

the assembly line in the Yorkshire based factory.

This allowed us at TCS to get some valuable knowledge on the G40 before we receive the cars in their final livery.  Craig and Jack, the two members who made the trip, felt it was definitely worthwhile, picking up tricks and hints on running the race cars in order for us to

fully maximise knowledge within the company so we can make an instant impact come the race season.

They were able to get a sneak insight into each department, from design and sales, right down to chassis welding and engine builds.

“Being able to work alongside the Ginetta mechanics and engineers has given both myself and Jack the confidence to go out there and prove ourselves as not only Caterham champions but to work towards the Ginetta championship from the off, it helps to be as well prepared as we can which was the main reason for making the trip up to the factory”.

Caterham Supersports

As one of the largest Roadsport A teams in 2010 we are aiming on being the biggest Supersport team in 2011, so far our team is made up of Rob Cooper, in 2010 sporting an intetresting carbon fibre look vinyl wrap, but in the new year will be running a very distinct and unmissable black and green number 6.

The team also welcomes John Saunders and Sean Byrne both from Roadsport B 2010. John will be doing both Roadsport A and Supersports in two very similar looking cars, both black and yellow.  Look forward to some quick driver changes as John

goes from one race to another.

Tim Mashman joins Trackcars in a Caterham Supersport

Tim Mashman has recently bought Paul Begley’s Supersport from 2010 season.  Tim will be doing his first full season of racing and first in Caterhams as well.  We look forward to seeing

Big changes for the team

As the year tails off and we head into

Christmas, TCS looks forward to a new year as we move into the Ginetta Challenge with 4 new Ginetta G40′s. Kevin Begley, Vance Kearney, Paul Latimer and Lee Moulden take up the seats for what can be a very exciting new direction for driver

and team.  The 4 new cars should be arriving in mid January, something the team is all looking forward to.

Final Caterham round at Snetterton

The final round at Snetterton was some way away, but I was told in no uncertain terms that family duties must take priority over further practice! After a long wait we turned up at this wonderful windswept circuit in Norfolk, which rivals Silverstone for width and the opportunities to slipstream fellow competitors.
The rain teemed down on Saturday morning, but I was delighted to qualify on the third row of the grid in fifth, especially as I had a good number of friends coming to watch the race that afternoon with their children. I made a reasonable start and the ensuing laps were highly entertaining, especially when the car in front took off over the back wheel of my team mate Lee Moulden. Also, the cheers of my supporters as I came through the chicane at the end of every lap certainly spurred me on!
Sadly, just over half way through the race I was sandwiched in a five car effort to get through the chicane, so I took to the grass and rejoined some way back. With the “red

mist” firmly in place, I hooked a wheel on the outside of the final chicane, kept my boot in and once the spin began I tensed for the impact against the tyre wall. I must have missed this by millimetres, and once I opened my eyes again, I found myself heading backwards up the pit lane! I stamped on the brakes and then headed back onto the track breathing a sigh of relief, and managed to make my way back through the backmarkers to

finish a distant 13th but at least the car was in one piece…
Sunday’s race was a lot less eventful, and was spent swapping places with Aviva man Chris Legg for tenth place, which he managed to reclaim on the last lap despite my best efforts so a quiet end to a great year.
In the end, my efforts were rewarded with 11th place in the Championship table out of 34 competitors. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Catlin and JLT Re for supporting me again, Trackcars for their tireless work keeping the car in fine fettle for every outing and of course to all those who made the effort to come and watch the racing which never fails to entertain!
